Haiti STEM Alliance
Bringing Technology, Innovation, and Opportunity to Classrooms Across Haiti

Haiti STEM Alliance is a national initiative led by Pennies for Haiti to close the digital divide and revolutionize education in Haiti through the power of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Launched in 2017, the Alliance introduces coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence to students across Haiti’s public schools, with a mission to equip underserved youth—especially girls—with the tools they need to succeed in a fast-evolving, tech-driven world.

The program is uniquely designed to address both educational and infrastructural inequities by using culturally relevant, offline-compatible technology. Students learn through platforms like Scratch, LEGO robotics kits, and solar-powered devices—making STEM education accessible even in Haiti’s most remote and resource-limited communities.

Haiti STEM Alliance targets students ages 8 to 12, a formative period for cognitive development and identity-building. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring that girls are not just included but prioritized, with female mentors, educators, and role models actively involved in shaping classroom experiences and inspiring confidence in young learners.

Beyond the student experience, the initiative invests deeply in educator training and school partnerships. Teachers are equipped not only with technical skills but also with support in project-based learning strategies that foster curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving. The program works in collaboration with Haitian universities, local education authorities, and global education networks to ensure quality, continuity, and cultural relevance.

Students in the Alliance are also introduced to national and international robotics competitions, virtual innovation showcases, and mentorship opportunities that connect them to peers and professionals in the wider STEM ecosystem. These experiences allow students to envision themselves as creators, engineers, and leaders—beyond the traditional constraints of their environment.

At its core, the Haiti STEM Alliance is more than a curriculum or classroom intervention. It is a movement to build a digitally literate generation of Haitian youth who are empowered to lead, innovate, and create solutions for their communities. By transforming both how and what students learn, the Alliance is paving the way for a more resilient, equitable, and future-ready Haiti.
